About Men Against Violence: MAV

Men Against Violence has been a peer education organization at Texas State fighting against senseless violence for thepast 5 years. The organization was founded by men at Louisana State University in 1995, which was first presided over by the LSU football captain, and current Buffalo Bill player, Gabe Northern. Since its inception, MAV has expanded to "Brother" chapters at U of Wyoming at Laramie, University of Florida at Gainsville, Columbia University, Texas State University-San Marcos, Tufts University, University of North Texas, Rochester Institute of Technology, and other Colleges and Universities around the country.

Our presentations focus on such topics as Acquaintance Rape, Hate Crimes, Dating Violence, Alcohol & Violence, Alcohol 101, Anger Management, and other forms of senseless violence. This is only possible because of the dedicated individual Texas State students (both male and female) that make up the organization Men Against Violence.

MAV's Mission Statement

At Texas State our mission is to reduce the frequency and severity of violence committed on the Texas State campus. But, this mission has become more than direct action. It has become a philosophy and consciousness at Texas State. We have expanded our mission to include not only academic classrooms, Greek organizations, and athletic groups, but state and national conferences, bootcamps for troubled youth, other universities (across the country), and anyone else that wants to hear our message. This message is delivered through advocacy, service, activism and educational presentations.
